Understanding the value

The further I explore blogging the more I realize the possibilities it holds for the classroom. The single greatest virtue that I see to this point is the interactive nature and flexibility it has when compared to a traditional web page, like a site created in Google Apps.

While I have used and maintained sites like these in the past, I have never attempted to create a blog or even considered using one for my classroom. Previous experiences with web pages has lead to the creation of sites that appear to be a digital extension/representation of a blackboard or dry-erase board hanging on the front wall of a room. These sites often tend to be a place where daily activities are listed, a few useful links might be offered, and occasional assignments may be posted for students to access outside the room. What they continue to lack is a personality and human touch that my first attempts at blogging seem to more readily embrace. Further exploration of blogging has created the notion in my mind that through this medium one can create greater personal connections to ideas, to passions, to beliefs, and to thoughts that provide the foundation for communities, which is what any successful classroom should strive to achieve.
